Nintendo Fan Creates a DS Switch Online

While Nintendo Switch Internet only offers free NES and SNES games right now, one fan thinks what it would look like if they added DS games to the organization.

Although Nintendo switch Online comes with a solid selection of classic features included and subscribed, most would agree that the service offers fail to compare with the Virtual Console of previous Nintendo programs. There is a free library of free themes that can grow, currently limited to many NES and SNES games, and one fan has shown one way Nintendo can do that with the concept of the Nintendo DS app.

With over 154 million programs sold throughout its lifetime, DS remains not only Nintendo's best-selling program but also the most hand-held gaming console. A double-tested fan on the long-running Game Boy line has opened the door to a variety of gaming consoles due to its introduction of touch controls, reinforced by spectacular acclaimed games. Given that legacy, it is understandable that many nostalgic fans would love to see these classics find new life in the current handheld Nintendo.

To that end, Twitter user TheNCSmaster recently unveiled their idea for the Nintendo Switch DS app, sharing mockups showing how the app might look functional. In addition to the home screen icon and launch screen, they include a full menu of DS games for subscribers who don't think they can access it, as well as instructions on how the original New Super Mario Bros. could display both screens on a single Switch screen.

Using the same clean interface as NES and SNES service applications, the mockups create a compelling argument for Nintendo to add DS to the line. However, the inclusion of certain games such as The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Interior Story raises the question of how these games, whose gameplay relies heavily on touch controls and dual-screen setups, might operate the switch. TheNCSmaster acknowledged the issue for comment, although it felt it could be addressed in the same way as it did with last year's Mega Man Zero / ZX Legacy Collection.

Of course, as current service games are simulated, the issues are that Nintendo will not be able to do the same with DS games and instead have to modify each game separately in order to operate within switch switches. That it will see as a decent work remains to be seen, but nonetheless, many switch switch owners agree that Nintendo switchch Online needs some new features besides the new NES and SNES games.
